Unity Construction Partners with Diverse Team to Implement Fiber Optic Light Wall in New Siemens Lobby
Unity Construction coordinated and installed a custom made and designed LED fiber optic light wall fixture for the New Siemens Lobby, in Princeton, NJ. The architectural light wall is a next-phase project from the original buildout that completes the work done in all phases by Unity Construction. The light wall further emphasizes the design, functionality, and aesthetic concept of the lobby project.
The LED fiber Optic wall frame utilizes standard building materials, while internal structural components were designed and installed by Unity Construction and fabricated with the help of New Jersey-based custom fabricators, Integrity Ironworks. FSG Electric furnished and installed the lighting components and wove the fiber optic cables, as per the design concept by HDR Architects. All components were then custom clad in stainless steel break metal by DMR Glass for the final finished appearance.
Many of the electric components were provided by Visual Lighting Technologies including the Roblon LED series FL1000 20-Watt LED illuminator, LED custom color wheel kit, wiring harness, and 5 mm MegoFlex SLK PMMA side light fibers and single end mirror end seals. All components are hidden from view but accessible for changes or upgrades in order to deliver clean modern lines that further emphasize the overall lobby design and architecture.
The resulting fiber optic lighting wall serves multiple architectural, branding and aesthetic purposes by creating a visually impactful architectural element that separates informal visitor and corporate meeting, gathering and waiting spaces within the larger lobby. The glass panel nature of the light wall delivers a modicum of conversational sound dampening while ensuring that those on either side of the seating area have line of sight.
Aesthetics of the wall are meant to integrate an additional focal point through an architectural scale lighting element, which fits inside while differentiating itself within the space. The dynamic and animated color changes of the fiber optics provide an abstracted nod to Siemens’ innovative technology approach to solutions development. These colors meld with the design palette chosen by Siemens and executed by Unity Construction Group in the recent lobby buildout.
